Haiti Letter
Dear Friends and Family:
I pray everything is going great for all of you! I have been seeking and praying to our Heavenly Father about what I should do with my life and where I need to go from here. God is so faithful! An awesome opportunity to minister His wonderful love came knocking on my door.
In December of ‘09 a friend referred my name to Sandy Turner, executive director of Operation Hope. She was seeking a graphic artist and photographer for their upcoming Gala. I had an awesome time working on the graphics they needed, and photographing the Valentine Gala was a blast! I continued to work for Operation Hope as they needed me, and then one day Sandi told me about their medical trip to Haiti. She said it would be awesome to have me along for the trip with my camera! I was super excited to have this opportunity but I also knew I needed to seek Him for wisdom and guidance. God is Awesome! After praying about it and asking God what to do, He gave me a strong peace about going and so that’s what I am going to do!
On May 22 through May 29, 2010 God has given me the chance to go to Haiti with a team of 4 doctors, 3 nurses, and 10 non-medical people. This 7-day mission trip we will be working out of a hospital tending to the sick. The non-medical team will be outside the hospital, with the people lined up for treatment, showing them the love of Christ in many ways (i.e. playing with the children, coloring, singing, etc.).
While God has opened up this door for me to develop a greater heart of compassion for His people around the world, the exciting part is that you will able to share in this great ministry opportunity that God has presented.
First, you can help by praying for us. We will need prayers that God will prepare us for our visit and bless our efforts as we minister to the people of Haiti. We also need prayers for the safety and health of the team. If you would like to share your prayer with us please post it on my blog.
You can also help by providing financial support. From now until May 5th I have to raise $1000 dollars (plus a little money for photography equipment) in order to go. For a full time student this is quite a challenge and that is why I am asking you to help me meet this goal. Every little bit helps! If you feel led to contribute I have set up PayPal here for contributions. Also, on this website I will be posting the pictures from the trip and even some of the stories of how God will be working through us while we are there.
Also, another way you can help is by giving items. The people in Haiti are in great need. It is the rainy season and many people are worried about diseases being spread because the Haitians have no shoes. If you can donate any of these items they would be much appreciated:
- rain ponchos
- flashlights
- multi-vitamins for adults and children
- shoes(sandals, flip-flops)
I look forward to doing God’s work in Haiti and I will let you know all about how God has worked through this team with your blessings and support.
God Bless,
Jonathan Mitchum
Hey everybody!
Soon there will be a post describing the trip and how you can help! Thanks for the support!
